Sunset Bar on Norfolk Island

The Beauty of Norfolk Island

Norfolk Island is an easy 2 hour 20 minutes direct flight from Brisbane or Sydney into the island. The flight does depart from the international terminal at both airports so the easiest is to travel on your passport however you can still travel with your driver’s license.

There is an array of accommodation on Norfolk Island ranging from hotel rooms to self-contained apartments to villas to whole houses. Anything from one to three bedrooms options are available.

Most of the properties and packages include car hires too as you do need a car to get around the island. Another way to see the island is by hopping on one of the many tours that they offer. Some of the must do tours include the Orientation tour, breakfast bushwalk, Colleen McCullough Tour, Murder Mystery Dinner, Progressive Dinner, Island Fish Fry, Convict Settlement Tour and so many more. We can tailor the package to suit your needs.

There is a lot of history on Norfolk from the Mutiny on the Bounty to the convict settlement and the locals are more than happy to have a chat and explain it all. There are a lot of monuments and museums to visit, telling the stories from the time Norfolk Island was founded in 1856.  A great way to see the history coming to life is with a visit to Cyclorama.

One thing people don’t realise about Norfolk Island is that there are plenty of activities for the adventurous. The Adventure tours include Glass Bottom boat tours, Mini Moke rally (these were some of my highlights), Fishing charters, Philip Island Trek, Coastal Kayaking, Island Adventure 4WD tours, Scenic Island cruises, Scuba Diving and Paintball. If you are looking for free activities there are plenty of those to keep you busy too!

The food on Norfolk is great, it’s fresh and all grown on the island. Due to the biosecurity laws they don’t import fruit and vegetables so everything is fresh and seasonal. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes options for breakfast, lunch and dinner, there is also a small supermarket for those staying in apartments for Villas. I would recommend trying a local fish dish.

My tip for Norfolk Island would be to take a dip in Emily Bay and don’t forget your sunscreen!

Now go and experience it, you will not be disappointed.
